English Graduate – Literacy & Academic Support Assistant

Location: Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne
Daily Pay: £90–£110

Protocol Education is seeking an English Graduate to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Gosforth as a Literacy & Academic Support Assistant.

The school prioritises high-quality teaching, inclusive support and strong literacy outcomes across all subjects. It boasts a diverse curriculum for students aged 13–18 and is easily accessible by public transport from across the region.

Role Summary:
As an English Graduate, you will support students in developing reading, writing and communication skills. You will work with teaching staff to deliver targeted support, help pupils engage with classroom activities and contribute to improving confidence and attainment in literacy.

Key tasks:

  • Support English lessons with classroom assistance and small-group work

  • Deliver structured literacy interventions, including reading and writing programmes

  • Assist students preparing for exams with effective revision techniques

  • Work with pupils of different ability levels to build confidence and fluency

  • Provide constructive feedback to teachers on pupil engagement and progress

Ideal candidates will:

  • Hold a degree in English, Literature, Communications or a related subject

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Be confident engaging with young people in a school setting

  • Be considering further study or careers in teaching, communications or education

This position provides practical experience that supports future applications to teacher training programmes.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
