DT Technician or Food & Textiles supports teachers and students by preparing materials, maintaining equipment (sewing machines, ovens, etc.), ensuring high standards of hygiene (food safety, COSHH), managing stock, organizing storage, and assisting with practical lessons and displays, focusing on health & safety compliance and smooth running of workshops for both food tech and textiles subjects. 
 
Key Responsibilities
Food Technology:
  • Stock & Hygiene: Manage food supplies, check expiry dates, store items safely, maintain kitchen hygiene (sinks, worktops, cookers).
  • Preparation: Portion ingredients, set up cooking stations, clean equipment like blenders.
  • Safety: Uphold food hygiene laws (aprons, hair tied back) 
Textiles:
  • Equipment: Set up and maintain sewing machines, manage threads and fabrics.
  • Materials: Prepare fabrics, assist with dyeing (tie-dye), and manage textile resources.
  • Support: Help students with practical tasks and coursework under teacher direction. 
General/Shared Duties:
  • Health & Safety: Implement risk assessments, ensure compliance, and manage chemical storage (COSHH).
  • Resource Management: Keep storage tidy, organize materials, maintain inventories, and undertake minor repairs.
  • Student Support: Provide guidance, supervise students, and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Admin: Assist with displays, photocopying, and liaison with teaching staff. 
 
Essential Skills & Attributes
  • Practical, hands-on approach and initiative.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and hygiene.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
