Position: Part-Time / Daily Cover Teaching Assistant (Specialist SEND)
Location: Sunderland / Tyne & Wear (willing to travel / driver essential)
Hours: Flexible daily or part-week cover, term time
Start date: Immediately

Role overview

This role offers flexibility and variety: providing daily cover across classes and support areas in a specialist setting for pupils aged 2–19 with complex needs (autism, SEMH, learning difficulties). You’ll be stepping into established routines and helping to maintain calm, safe and inclusive environments.

Key tasks

  • Provide cover in classrooms or small groups as needed.

  • Support pupils’ emotional control, behaviour and engagement in learning tasks.

  • Use visual aids, sensory strategies and consistent routines to reduce anxiety.

  • Assist with personal care, communication, mobility or therapy support if required.

  • Work in tandem with staff to ensure seamless transition and consistency.

Candidate profile

  • Experience (or genuine commitment) working with pupils with SEND is desirable.

  • Calm, patient, adaptable and willing to cover diverse classes and needs.

  • Must hold a driving licence and have access to a car; comfortable travelling between sites.

  • Enhanced DBS (child & adult) or willingness to obtain.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
