A forward-thinking and inclusive secondary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a confident and adaptable Cover Teacher for English for a full-time, short-term position starting this September. This role is ideal for someone who values the power of language and is ready to keep students engaged and on track during teacher absences.

You’ll deliver pre-planned English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping students explore everything from creative writing to literary analysis, while maintaining a calm and structured classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pre-set English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Engage students in reading, writing, and critical thinking

  • Maintain behaviour expectations and create a supportive learning space

  • Record attendance and report any incidents or safeguarding concerns

  • Offer clarification on lesson content and support with classwork

  • Be flexible to cover other subjects when needed

You’ll be a great fit if you:

  • Have experience working in a secondary school or educational role

  • Hold a degree or strong subject knowledge in English Language and/or Literature

  • Are confident with classroom management and student engagement

  • Communicate clearly and supportively, even under pressure

  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or are willing to apply for one)

  • Are passionate about education and student development
