A welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Harlow, is seeking a compassionate and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a student with additional needs. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference, helping the student access learning, develop self-regulation skills, and thrive within the school environment.
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be central to supporting the student to feel safe, valued, and included. You will provide consistent, structured support, helping them manage impulses, follow school routines, and engage with lessons. The student has experienced significant trauma and may struggle with behaviour, so a calm, patient, and nurturing approach is essential.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one support to help the student access the curriculum and engage with learning.

Support social interactions, guide behaviour, and help the student understand classroom expectations.

Use de-escalation strategies, positive reinforcement, and structured interventions to promote positive behaviour.

Build a trusting and supportive relationship, combining warmth with clear boundaries.

Assist the student in navigating the school environment and daily routines.

Liaise with teachers, SENCo, and other professionals to ensure consistent and effective support.

Record observations and contribute to progress updates.
Person Specification:

Experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly those with behavioural challenges or trauma.

Calm, consistent, and patient approach in managing challenging behaviour.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with students and colleagues.

Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and SEN support approaches.

Empathetic, nurturing, and committed to helping the student succeed.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
