A welcoming and inclusive school in Gateshead is seeking a dedicated Care Support Worker to join their team. The school supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, and they are looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and confident providing both care and emotional support.

This role is ideal for individuals with a background in care, support work, SEN, or anyone passionate about helping children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

 

About the Role

As a Care Support Worker, you will be supporting pupils who require additional help with daily activities, personal care, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing personal care to pupils who require it (training provided)

  • Supporting mobility, communication and sensory needs

  • Offering emotional reassurance and helping pupils manage daily challenges

  • Working 1:1 or in small groups, depending on pupil needs

  • Helping pupils follow routines and access learning

  • Assisting teaching staff with classroom tasks and transitions

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive interactions

  • Contributing to pupil care plans and reporting any concerns promptly

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in care, support work, youth work or a related field

  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach

  • Good communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team

  • Confidence providing personal care and supporting vulnerable pupils

  • Understanding of SEND or a willingness to learn

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding

  • A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply

Whether you’ve worked in residential care, community care, health & social care, or SEN education, your transferable skills will be highly valued.
