A nurturing and well-resourced specialist school in Durham is looking to appoint a compassionate and reliable Care Support Assistant. This role is ideal for someone with experience in care, support work, SEN settings, or anyone passionate about helping vulnerable young people thrive in a structured, supportive environment.
About the Role
As a Care Support Assistant, you will play an essential part in the daily life of students with a range of needs, including:

Autism and communication differences

Moderate to severe learning difficulties

Physical or sensory needs
-
Social, emotional and mental health needs
You’ll work alongside teaching staff, therapists and pastoral teams to ensure pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
Your responsibilities will include:

Providing consistent care, emotional support and reassurance
-
Supporting students with personal care (where required)
-
Encouraging independence, confidence and social interaction
-
Assisting pupils throughout the school day, including during lessons and transitions

Implementing personalised support plans and behaviour strategies
-
Maintaining a calm, patient and positive presence
-
Promoting safeguarding and wellbeing at all times
What We’re Looking For

Experience in care, support work, youth work or similar roles

A patient, kind and proactive approach

Confidence supporting children or young people with additional needs
-
Ability to build strong, trusting relationships
-
Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude
-
A commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries
-
A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
