Protocol Education are partnered with an incredibly welcoming and supportive BS1 secondary school to find talented candidates to become Unqualified Teachers, covering staff absences across the school.

This is a flexible, rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference, become a familiar face in the school community and build meaningful classroom experience, without the pressure of planning or marking and without needing a teaching qualification. Childcare experience is valued, but not neccesary, if you have the drive and transferrable skills to begin a career in Secondary Education! You can work full or part-time and will be flexible across subjects, becoming a trusted fixture within the school.

The role
As an Unqualified Teacher, you will:
• Step in for absent teachers across a range of subjects
• Supervise classes and guide pupils through pre-planned work
• Maintain a calm, purposeful learning environment
• Be a consistent, fair and reassuring presence for students
• Lead the classroom with warmth, authority and kindness

Lessons are already prepared, so your focus is on behaviour, engagement and supporting pupils to stay on track. No QTS or PGCE is required, what matters is confidence, professionalism and the ability to lead a room.

The school
We are working with a highly respected, oversubscribed 11–18 secondary school in the BS1 area, located in the heart of Bristol and home to a large sixth form.

The school serves a diverse student community drawn from across the city and beyond, and this diversity is actively celebrated. Its culture is rooted in strong relationships, clear boundaries and high expectations. Pupils are encouraged to feel safe, valued and empowered in their learning.

Behaviour systems are clear, consistent and well embedded, designed to maximise learning time and ensure cover staff feel confident and supported when stepping into lessons. This is a school where ambition is nurtured and every adult plays a role in helping young people reach their full potential.

Your day-to-day
• Supervise lessons during teacher absence
• Deliver pre-set work confidently
• Uphold routines and expectations
