BSL Teaching Assistant – Sunderland

Salary: £89–£108 per day (PAYE)

We’re working with a specialist SEND school in the Sunderland area that supports pupils with hearing impairments and complex communication needs. They’re on the lookout for a BSL-trained Teaching Assistant to provide hands-on support to learners across the Primary and/or Secondary phases.

What you’ll be doing:

Supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils using British Sign Language

Working 1:1 and in small groups to build confidence, understanding, and engagement

Assisting with classroom learning, emotional regulation, and daily routines

Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and families to provide consistent, meaningful support
You’ll need:

BSL Level 2 or higher (Level 3+ preferred)

Experience supporting children with SEND and/or hearing impairments

A calm, friendly approach and a passion for inclusive learning

Confidence using visual, tactile, and signing communication strategies

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
