We’re working with a specialist SEND school in the Sunderland area that supports pupils with hearing impairments and complex communication needs. They’re on the lookout for a BSL-trained Teaching Assistant to provide hands-on support to learners across the Primary and/or Secondary phases.

This is a school where every pupil is respected, supported, and encouraged to thrive-where communication isn’t a barrier, it’s a bridge.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils using British Sign Language

  • Working 1:1 and in small groups to build confidence, understanding, and engagement

  • Assisting with classroom learning, emotional regulation, and daily routines

  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and families to provide consistent, meaningful support

You’ll need:

  • BSL Level 2 or higher (Level 3+ preferred)

  • Experience supporting children with SEND and/or hearing impairments

  • A calm, friendly approach and a passion for inclusive learning

  • Confidence using visual, tactile, and signing communication strategies

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
