Behavioural Support Assistant

We’re looking for a Behavioural Support Assistant to join a supportive SEND provision in the Gateshead area. This role is all about building trust, creating structure, and helping young people navigate challenges so they can re-engage with learning and succeed.
You’ll be part of a passionate, close-knit team who understand that behaviour is communication — and that with the right support, every child can thrive. No two days are the same, but every day you’ll make a difference.
What you’ll be doing:

Supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs (SEMH) across primary and secondary settings

Building strong, positive relationships through consistency and encouragement

Assisting in developing and maintaining clear routines and calm learning environments

Working closely with teachers, mentors, and pastoral staff to deliver tailored behaviour strategies

Providing 1:1 or small group support to help pupils regulate emotions and develop confidence
What we’re looking for:

Experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour (education, youth work, or care background)

A calm, patient, and empathetic manner

Ability to de-escalate situations and model positive behaviour
-
Resilience, reliability, and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed

Training or awareness in SEMH, Team Teach, or similar approaches (bonus points if you’re Thrive-trained – if not, we’ll provide this for free!)
