Behaviour Support Mentor

Start date: Monday 6th Janaury 2024

Hours: 08:30 - 15:30 (Part-Time and Full-Time roles available)

 

Location: Swindon (SN2, SN3, SN4)

 

This role is a person-centred approach supporting young people with a learning disability. Whether the child has SEMH (Social + Emotional Mental Health) or ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or any other learning disability that may hinder their behaviour and/or learning within a classroom setting.

There are many schools that Protocol Education work with that are looking for a caring and intuitive individual to help support the behaviour of student(s) within the classroom. A lot of candidates are seen to go from temp to perm roles.

Prior experience of working/volunteering in an educational setting with students with these needs is desired.

Previous successful candidates from Protocol Education have had experience in Youth Work, Care/Hospital experience, Art/Creative backgrounds, Psychology/Sociology Graduates. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about this and what to get involved with this career!

The Role:

  • Giving 1:1 support to student(s) who may be struggling with the curriculum due to their needs.
  • Help to adapt and tailor learning from class teacher for student(s) so that they can feel and be successful.
  • Communicate well with staff, colleagues and parents/carers via telephone/email professionally when necessary.
  • Being a positive role model for student and using school reward system fairly to encourage positive attitudes and behaviours.
  • Use classroom behaviour management skills to help assist student(s) in demonstrating positive behaviour and overcoming their barriers to learning.

The Candidate:

  • Calm and resilient when dealing with situations.
  • Positive can-do attitude and a willingness to join in on class activities.
  • Flexibility within the general day to day running of the classroom.
  • Experience of working with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, SEN.
  • Passion and care for children with a various learning disabilities.
  • A creative and ‘out-the-box’ mentality when facilitating learning.
