Behaviour Support Mentor – Secondary

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Daily Rate: £90–£110

Protocol Education is working closely with a values-led secondary school in Newcastle to recruit a Behaviour Support Mentor to work with students who require additional emotional, behavioural and pastoral support.

The school is part of a forward-thinking trust that prioritises inclusion, consistency and relationship-based practice. There is a strong focus on early intervention, restorative approaches and supporting students to re-engage with learning. The school is located in an area with excellent public transport links, making it easily accessible from across Newcastle and surrounding communities.

About the role:
As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work with students across KS3 and KS4 who may present with challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties or barriers to learning. You will support students both in and out of the classroom, working closely with teaching staff, SEN teams and pastoral leaders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students to manage behaviour and emotions positively

  • Delivering 1:1 or small-group interventions

  • Assisting with de-escalation and conflict resolution

  • Supporting students during transitions and unstructured times

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with young people with SEMH needs

  • Be calm, patient and resilient

  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Be committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
