Behaviour Support Assistant – South Shields

Location: South Shields

Contract: Full-time, long-term
Pay: £85 to £100 per day (PAYE)

Got the patience of a saint and a knack for helping young people reset and refocus? We’re looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to work with pupils who need a bit of extra help regulating emotions and navigating school life.

This role sits in a specialist setting that supports pupils with additional learning needs, communication differences, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. You’ll be part coach, part cheerleader, part anchor.

Your day-to-day:

  • Supporting pupils through emotional dysregulation

  • Using de-escalation strategies and consistent routines

  • Helping pupils access learning in a calm, structured way

  • Working closely with staff and therapy teams

  • Building trust through warmth, patience, and steady reassurance

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in behaviour support, youth work, care, or SEND

  • A grounded, compassionate approach

  • Confidence using calm strategies rather than confrontation

  • Reliability and willingness to learn

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
