Are you calm, compassionate, and confident in supporting children with additional needs? We’re looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist setting in Sunderland.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a real difference to pupils’ lives by providing personalised support, promoting positive behaviour, and helping children to develop the social and emotional tools they need to thrive.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:

  • Work closely with pupils who have social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH)

  • Support children with tailored strategies to manage behaviour and build resilience

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, focusing on emotional regulation and confidence building

  • Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to put effective strategies into practice

What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs

  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • The ability to stay positive and proactive, even in challenging situations

  • Training in safeguarding, mental health, or behaviour support (desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
