A school in Gateshead is looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant who can bring patience, consistency, and a calm approach to the school day. You’ll be working closely with pupils who may find certain parts of the day challenging, offering steady support that helps them feel understood, safe, and ready to learn.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building positive relationships and wants to make a meaningful difference to young people who benefit from structure and encouragement. You’ll be part of a supportive team who will guide you through the routines, strategies, and approaches used across the school.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting pupils who need help regulating emotions or managing certain situations.

  • Providing one-to-one or small-group support throughout lessons and transitions.

  • Encouraging positive behaviour using clear, consistent strategies shared by the team.

  • Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff to follow behaviour plans and monitor progress.

  • Helping pupils rebuild confidence and re-engage with their learning.

  • Good communication skills and a friendly, supportive approach.

  • The ability to stay steady during challenging moments and respond thoughtfully.

  • Experience with behaviour support or SEND is helpful but not essential, as training will be provided.
