Are you the kind of person who stays calm when everything else feels a bit chaotic? A specialist school in Gateshead is looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant who can offer steady guidance, patient communication and a reassuring presence to pupils who find school life challenging.

You’ll play a key role in helping students manage emotions, rebuild confidence and feel safe enough to learn at their own pace.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs across the school day

  • Offering calm, structured guidance when emotions run high or routines feel overwhelming

  • Helping pupils re-engage with learning after difficult moments

  • Building trusting relationships through consistency, empathy and clear communication

  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and behaviour leads to deliver joined-up support

  • Encouraging resilience, small wins and positive behaviour choices

Who we’d love to hear from

  • Someone who responds calmly under pressure and enjoys problem-solving

  • Experience in SEMH, youth work, mentoring, coaching or care is helpful but not essential

  • A good communicator who builds rapport quickly with young people

  • A team-focused person who brings positivity, patience and reliability

  • Someone who genuinely wants to help pupils feel understood and supported

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
