The role

We are working with a well-established 11–18 secondary school in Northumberland to recruit a Behaviour Support Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and barriers to learning. This is a hands-on role suited to someone confident supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom.

The school has strong behaviour systems, a clear pastoral structure, and a proactive approach to inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with behaviour and emotional regulation needs

  • Work 1:1 or in small groups to re-engage pupils in learning

  • De-escalate challenging situations and promote positive behaviour

  • Support pupils in lessons, interventions, and alternative spaces

  • Liaise with pastoral staff, SEN teams, and teaching staff

The ideal candidate

  • Experience in education, youth work, care, security, or similar settings

  • Confident supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs

  • Calm, resilient, and consistent approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Open to day-to-day or long-term placements

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
