Protocol Education is working in partnership with a specialist education setting in Telford that is on a clear journey of improvement, with rising expectations for students, staff, and the wider school community. The focus is firmly on delivering consistently high-quality provision across all areas, ensuring every young person is supported to achieve academic success and develop the skills they need for adult life.
The setting is strengthening its approach to safeguarding, teaching and learning, pastoral care, and personal development, alongside delivering an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum and promoting high aspirations, positive behaviour, and meaningful future pathways for all learners.
The role: Behaviour Support Assistant
We are seeking a calm, committed Behaviour Support Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs within this specialist environment. This is a role where consistency, patience, and relationship-building are key.
You will be a steady, trusted presence, working closely with teaching and pastoral teams to help pupils regulate emotions, remain engaged with learning, and develop positive coping strategies both in and out of the classroom. Progress may come in small steps, but your impact will be felt every day.
Key responsibilities
-
Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
-
Using de-escalation and regulation strategies to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively
-
Building strong, consistent relationships that help pupils feel safe, respected, and understood
-
Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to support individual plans
-
Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement throughout the school day
About the setting

-
Providing staff with high-quality support and professional development to drive continuous improvement
-

Pastoral care sits at the heart of the provision, with staff working closely with families to support wellbeing, attendance, and long-term outcomes. The curriculum is designed to be engaging, practical, and accessible, helping students build confidence, curiosity, and essential life skills.
We’re looking for someone who:
-
Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional needs
-
Brings a calm, resilient, and patient approach, even during difficult moments
-
Understands the importance of consistency, clear boundaries, and empathy
-
Works well as part of a wider team and communicates effectively with staff and families
