We’re supporting a fantastic special school in Gateshead that’s looking for an Autism Support Assistant to join their team. The school is warm, welcoming and brilliant at helping new staff settle in, so it’s a great place to start if you’re looking for a meaningful new role.
You do not need any previous experience. Just bring kindness, consistency and a willingness to learn. The rest you’ll pick up along the way.
What you’ll be doing

Supporting pupils with autism in the classroom and during structured activities

Helping with communication, routine and emotional regulation

Working 1:1 or in small groups depending on the pupil’s needs

Building positive, trusting relationships with young people who rely on steady adults

Using clear, consistent strategies recommended by teachers and the SEN team

Celebrating small steps forward and helping pupils feel confident and understood
