Do you have a calm presence, a patient approach and a genuine interest in understanding how each child communicates their world? Protocol Education is looking for an Autism Support Assistant who can offer steady, thoughtful support to pupils who learn and express themselves in unique ways.

This role is all about connection. You’ll be helping pupils feel safe, confident and ready to engage by creating routines that work for them and celebrating progress, no matter how small.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting autistic pupils across the school day, both in class and during quieter moments

  • Using visual supports, sensory strategies and structured routines to make learning accessible

  • Encouraging communication in the way that works best for each pupil

  • Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to keep support consistent

  • Helping pupils manage transitions, emotions and social interactions

  • Building trust through patience, predictability and kindness

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting autistic children, young people or adults

  • Someone who is calm, observant and able to adapt to individual needs

  • A team player who brings empathy and professionalism to every situation

  • An interest in SEND or autism-specific approaches such as visual timetables, PECs or sensory regulation (training provided if needed)

  • A genuine desire to help pupils feel valued, understood and able to thrive

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
