Are you someone who notices the little things, stays patient when days feel unpredictable and enjoys helping pupils feel understood? A welcoming specialist setting in Durham is looking for an Autism Support Worker who can bring calm, curiosity and consistent support to pupils who learn in different ways.

This role is all about connection, communication and creating a school day that feels safe and manageable for each child.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting autistic pupils with communication, routines and engagement

  • Using visual aids, sensory tools and structured approaches that make learning accessible

  • Offering reassurance during transitions and emotional moments

  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and support teams to provide steady, joined-up support

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive interactions

  • Helping pupils celebrate progress in ways that feel meaningful to them

Who we're looking for

  • Experience supporting autistic children, young people or adults is helpful but not essential

  • Someone calm, observant and able to adapt to individual needs

  • A good listener who builds trust through warmth and consistency

  • A proactive team player who enjoys learning new strategies

  • A genuine interest in SEND, communication support and pupil wellbeing

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
