We’re supporting a fantastic specialist school in Durham that’s looking for an Autism Support Assistant to join their team. The school is warm, nurturing and built around supporting pupils with autism through structure, clear communication and strong relationships.
You don’t need to have worked in a school before. What matters most is your attitude, empathy and willingness to learn.
What you’ll be doing

Supporting pupils with autism in lessons, structured activities and social times

Helping with communication, sensory needs and routines

Working 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils feel safe, settled and confident

Using clear, consistent strategies recommended by the SEN and pastoral teams

Helping pupils regulate emotions and navigate challenging moments

Celebrating progress, building trust and being a reassuring presence throughout the day

Someone calm, patient and genuinely interested in supporting young people

A great communicator who can build positive relationships

Experience in care, youth work, coaching or SEN is helpful but absolutely not essential

A team player who’s flexible, open-minded and eager to learn
