About the Role

We’re recruiting an Autism Support Assistant for a Sunderland primary school with a well-established nurture provision. You’ll be joining a supportive team focused on communication, sensory understanding, and calm, predictable routines.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting autistic pupils with communication and sensory needs
  • Preparing visual supports and using structured teaching methods
  • Creating low-pressure learning environments that help pupils thrive
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and parents

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting autistic pupils or children with additional needs
  • Patience, empathy and a steady, reassuring approach
  • Willingness to learn and follow structured strategies
  • Strong collaboration skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
