We’re looking for an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming SEND school in South Shields. The role involves supporting pupils across KS2–KS4 who have autism and associated communication needs.
You’ll be joining a school that focuses on positive behaviour support, structured routines, and personalised learning. You’ll be guided by experienced teachers and supported by a team that truly understands the importance of patience, consistency, and fun.
What you’ll do:

Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with autism

Use visual aids, structured activities and sensory play to build engagement

Work closely with therapists and SEN staff to create positive outcomes

Encourage independence and confidence in everyday school life
We’re looking for:

Previous experience supporting pupils with autism (in education, youth work, or care)

A good sense of humour and endless patience

A flexible approach and strong communication skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
