Attendance Officer ( Mainstream Secondary School )

As an associate staff member, your contribution will be instrumental in the school's success. They hold associate staff to the highest standards of professionalism, as they form the backbone of our support for students and their families.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer student attendance using SIMS, ensuring accurate and complete records.
  • Complete all registers and follow up with staff on missing registers when necessary.
  • Update systems daily with absence reasons, contact parents for unknown absences, and communicate lateness to school.
  • Verify register accuracy and identify genuine student absences, contacting parents/carers on the first day of absence.
  • Collaborate with tutors, Heads of Year, Senior Management Team, and outside agencies to analyze attendance data and compile reports.
  • Send letters to parents/carers regarding student attendance, using templates or composing personalized letters as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, professionals, and the public in person, via email, and over the phone.
  • Address low pupil attendance within the school and individual classes proactively.
  • Efficiently log and file student information.

Essential Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

  • Knowledge of relevant policies, codes of practice, and awareness of legislation (safeguarding, equal opportunities).
  • Understanding of truancy and non-school attendance issues.
  • Familiarity with attendance regulations.
  • Awareness of factors affecting students' ability to attend school.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and ICT skills, proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Organizational skills for data handling and record maintenance.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and work under pressure.
  • Establishing appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.
  • Good relationships with colleagues and students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
