Ready to bring your creativity into the classroom? We’re working with a brilliant SEND school in Shrewsbury that’s looking for an Artistic Youth Worker. If you’ve got a background in art, drama, movement, music, or creative therapy, this could be a fantastic way to use your skills to make a real difference.
The school offers a calm, structured environment for pupils with autism, SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, and complex learning profiles. Every student has an EHCP, and staff work together to support each child emotionally, socially, and academically.
What you’ll be doing:
As an Artistic Youth Worker, you’ll use creativity as a tool for connection. You’ll support pupils 1 to 1 and in small groups, helping them express themselves, take part in learning, and build confidence. Think sensory sessions, drama games, expressive art, or simple movement activities that help students find their voice.
Key responsibilities include:
• Helping pupils engage with learning through creative approaches
• Using art, drama, music, or movement to support communication
• Working closely with teachers and TAs to deliver personalised plans
• Encouraging a positive, inclusive classroom culture
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and daily routines
Who we’re looking for someone who:
• Has experience or training in the arts, performance, creative therapies, or similar
• Has supported children or young people with SEND, especially ASD or SEMH
• Can stay calm, adapt quickly, and bring a warm, encouraging presence
• Loves using creativity to build trust and confidence
• Cares about wellbeing and inclusion in education
