A primary school in Denton Burn, Newcastle is looking for a caring, consistent 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and autism spectrum condition (ASC).

This is a full-time, long-term role where you’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to help the child feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

Your role will include:

  • Building a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil

  • Supporting emotional regulation and promoting independence

  • Using clear, consistent communication strategies to aid understanding

  • Helping the pupil engage with lessons, adapt activities, and access learning

  • Working alongside staff and parents to ensure a joined-up approach

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children with SEMH and/or ASC

  • Brings patience, empathy, and a calm approach to challenges

  • Can adapt quickly and work as part of a supportive team

  • Understands the importance of consistency and routine
