The role

A well-established secondary school in Northumberland is seeking a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a pupil with additional learning needs.

This role involves working closely with one student to support their academic progress, emotional regulation, and engagement in lessons. The school has clear behaviour systems and a strong SEN team, offering a structured and supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 classroom support

  • Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Liaise with teaching staff and SENCO regarding progress

  • Encourage independence and confidence

The ideal candidate

  • Experience supporting young people with SEN (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties)

  • Calm, patient and consistent approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Confident supporting behaviour within a secondary setting

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
