Be the Calm in Their Day
We’re looking for a kind and consistent 1:1 Support Assistant to work with a Reception child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a nurturing primary school in Merton. Starting in January, this full-time role is all about providing the steady presence and tailored support this young pupil needs to feel safe, settled, and ready to learn.
You’ll help them access their learning through clear routines, gentle encouragement, and patient guidance—making a huge difference in the little wins of each day.
What You’ll Be Doing:
-
Supporting one Reception pupil with ASD to access learning and feel confident in the classroom
-
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to follow structured plans and sensory strategies
-
Using visual aids, now-and-next boards, and calm communication to build trust
-
Creating a predictable and supportive environment that celebrates progress, however small
We’d Love to Hear From You If:
-
You’ve got experience supporting pupils with ASD or other SEND needs
-
You understand how to stay calm, flexible, and encouraging—even when the day takes a few detours
-
You’re happy working 1:1 and know the importance of consistency and patience
-
You bring empathy, energy, and a genuine passion for helping children grow
