A supportive school in Gateshead is looking for a 1:1 Support Assistant who can offer calm, consistent help to a pupil who needs extra guidance throughout the school day. If you enjoy being a steady presence and helping children feel safe and ready to learn, this could be a great fit for you.

No long list of experience is required, but if you’ve worked with children or in a support role before, that’s always a bonus.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil who benefits from close, personalised guidance

  • Supporting them with learning tasks, daily routines and transitions

  • Helping them stay engaged using simple strategies and clear, calm communication

  • Offering reassurance during challenging moments and helping them get back on track

  • Working closely with teachers and support staff to keep expectations consistent

  • Encouraging confidence, independence and positive relationships

Who we’re looking for

  • Someone patient, understanding and comfortable providing focused support

  • A good communicator who builds rapport quickly

  • Experience in care, youth work, mentoring or SEND is helpful but not essential

  • A team player who brings reliability, empathy and positivity

  • Someone open to training, feedback and learning new approaches

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
