1:1 SEND Support Assistant

If you enjoy helping young people feel safe, understood and ready to learn, this 1:1 SEND Support Assistant role in South Tyneside could be a brilliant next step. The school is looking for someone patient, compassionate and reliable who can provide individualised support to a pupil who relies on consistency throughout the day.

What your working day will look like as a Send Support

You’ll support one pupil on a one-to-one basis, helping them access learning, build confidence and manage routines. You’ll work closely with teachers and SEND staff, following support plans and using a calm, encouraging approach to help the pupil feel secure and successful.

Your daily responsibilities as a SEND Support

  • Providing steady, personalised support in lessons
  • Helping the pupil regulate emotions and stay engaged
  • Offering reassurance during transitions or tricky moments
  • Working with the SENDCO and class teacher to apply support strategies
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and small steps of progress
  • Creating a calm, predictable environment for the pupil

We’d love to hear from you if you bring

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEND
  • A gentle, patient communication style
  • Confidence working 1:1
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
