A nurturing special needs school in Durham is looking for a 1:1 SEN Support Assistant to start immediately who can offer calm, steady support to a pupil who needs consistency and reassurance to thrive.

If you’re someone who brings patience, warmth, and a genuine desire to help pupils feel safe and understood, this could be the perfect fit.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs

  • Helping them manage routines, communication, transitions, and sensory breaks

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and therapy staff to keep things consistent

  • Using simple, structured strategies to help your pupil engage in learning

  • Celebrating progress in all its forms, big and small

What we’re looking for

  • Experience with SEND, or strong transferable experience from care, youth work, coaching, or similar

  • Someone who stays calm during tricky moments and brings positivity into the room

  • A great communicator who can build trust quickly

  • A reliable team player who is willing to get fully involved in school life

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
