Do you have a calm presence and a natural ability to connect with young people who need a little extra support? We’re looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEMH Support Assistant immediately to work closely with a child who needs consistency, patience, and someone who genuinely understands them.

If you’re steady, empathetic, and great at building trust, this role has your name on it.

About the role

You’ll be supporting a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them feel safe, regulated, and ready to engage with learning.

Your day will involve:

  • Providing calm, consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day

  • Using agreed strategies to help the pupil manage emotions, routines, and transitions

  • Supporting them to develop confidence, communication, and self-regulation

  • De-escalating challenging situations with patience and care

  • Creating a space where the pupil feels understood, respected, and able to try again

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider pastoral team

Requirements to work as a 1:1 SEMH Support Assistant

 

  • Experience supporting children or young people, ideally with SEMH or SEND

  • A steady, positive, and resilient approach

  • Confidence using behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Great communication and relationship-building skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
