Some children need more than patience. They need consistency, understanding, and someone who doesn’t give up when the day gets tough.
We’re working with a specialist SEN school in Gateshead looking for a 1:1 Behavioural Support Assistant to support a pupil who needs calm, clear boundaries and a trusted adult by their side. This is a role where relationships come first and progress happens step by step.
You’ll be there to help a young person regulate emotions, stay safe, and access learning, even on the days when things feel challenging. It’s not always easy, but it’s incredibly meaningful work.
What the role involves:
-
Providing 1:1 behavioural and emotional support throughout the school day
-
Supporting de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
-
Helping the pupil engage with learning and daily routines
-
Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and behaviour specialists
-
Being a consistent, reassuring presence when things feel overwhelming
This role is ideal if you:
-
Have experience supporting children with behavioural needs, SEND, SEMH, or trauma-related behaviours
-
Stay calm under pressure and don’t take behaviour personally
-
Understand that behaviour is communication
-
Are resilient, empathetic, and patient
-
Want to make a genuine difference, not just tick boxes
