Specialist School, Durham
KS1 & KS2 | Full-time, long-term

This role is about consistency, trust, and being the steady presence a child can rely on.

We’re working with a welcoming specialist school in Durham who are looking for a 1:1 Behavioural Support Assistant to support pupils across KS1 and KS2. These children may display behaviours that communicate unmet needs, and the school is looking for someone who understands that behaviour is never “just behaviour”.

If you’re calm under pressure, great at building relationships, and believe every child deserves to feel safe and understood, this could be a really rewarding next step.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing 1:1 behavioural support to pupils with additional needs

  • Supporting emotional regulation, transitions, and positive behaviour strategies

  • Helping pupils access learning in a way that works for them

  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams

  • Following individual behaviour plans and celebrating progress, however small it looks

You’ll be a great fit if you:

  • Have experience supporting children with behavioural needs, SEND, or SEMH

  • Bring patience, empathy, and a consistent approach to your work

  • Can stay calm and reassuring during challenging moments

  • Understand the importance of routine, boundaries, and trust

  • Are happy working across both KS1 and KS2
