Job Description

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teacher of Humanities to deliver high-quality education within a supportive and dynamic learning environment. The successful candidate will plan, prepare and teach humanities subjects, inspiring intellectual curiosity and critical thinking among learners. This role involves designing engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and assessing student progress to ensure educational goals are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons in humanities subjects in accordance with the national curriculum and school policies.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, engagement and motivation.
  • Support the development of students’ critical thinking, analytical skills and subject knowledge.
  • Contribute to the development and review of humanities curricula and teaching resources.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, professional development and whole-school initiatives to enhance educational outcomes.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress and behaviour.
  • Adhere rigorously to safeguarding policies and promote the welfare of all students.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • A degree in a humanities-related discipline such as History, Geography, Religious Studies or Social Sciences.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant humanities subject.
  • Demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional development in teaching methodologies and subject expertise.

Experience

  • Previous experience teaching humanities subjects at secondary school level is desirable.
  • Proven experience in planning and delivering lessons that fulfil curriculum requirements.
  • Demonstrable ability to assess and monitor student progress effectively.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong subject knowledge in one or more humanities disciplines.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in utilising educational technology and learning resources.
  • Thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Commitment to fostering equality, diversity and inclusion within the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Education or a humanities subject.
  • Familiarity with examination board requirements and assessment criteria.
  • Training or certification in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time role during term time, with occasional participation in after-school activities or meetings.
  • Work is primarily classroom-based within a school setting.
  • The post may require occasional travel within the Yorkshire and the Humber region.
  • Use of standard educational resources and information technology is expected.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
