Are you ready for a role where routine meets real connection — and where play matters just as much as progress? A vibrant secondary setting in Gateshead is recruiting a Teaching Assistant who brings warmth, confidence and positivity to every day.
This is a structured environment with high academic expectations and a strong focus on literacy and student development. But it’s also a place where relationships are key and those relationships often blossom over shared activities, whether it’s a five-a-side kick around at break, a lunchtime ping pong showdown or a friendly PlayStation challenge after lunch. These social times form part of the school’s supportive culture and are just as important as classroom learning in helping students feel valued and connected.
You’ll help students in lessons - circulating the room, supporting their focus, helping improve their reading and writing and providing encouragement. You don’t need to arrive with years of experience; what matters most is your personality, your ability to build rapport, and your enthusiasm to be part of the school day from start to finish. Experience in coaching, youth work, childcare, team leadership, sports or community programmes can give you an edge — and your skills like patience, creativity and communication will be vital here.
Breakfast club gets the day off to a positive start as you sit and chat with students, helping them settle in and feel ready for learning. Break gives students a chance to let off steam — and you’ll be there to supervise, join a game of football or encourage teamwork.
At lunch, you’ll eat with students and join in structured social play from ping pong to PlayStation that strengthens relationships and builds community.
Students leave at 2:15pm, and you’ll be on site until 4:30pm for planning, reflection and development. Whether you’re considering a future in teaching, youth support, childcare, sports coaching or social work, this role gives you hands-on experience in a lively and positive school setting.
