Support Worker

Are you an experienced Support Worker looking to transition into or continue working within secondary schools?

We’re recruiting Support Workers to work in secondary school settings across South Tyneside, supporting students with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs.

As a Support Worker in a secondary school, you’ll play a vital role in helping young people navigate education, manage emotions and stay engaged with learning.

This role is ideal for youth workers, residential support workers or care professionals who want to make an impact during the school day.

What a Support Worker does in a secondary school:

• Providing 1:1 and small group support
• Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural needs
• Assisting pupils at risk of exclusion
• Helping students regulate emotions and build coping strategies
• Working alongside pastoral and safeguarding teams
• Promoting attendance and engagement

Secondary Support Workers are often the consistent adult young people rely on.

We’re looking for a Support Worker who:

• Has experience working with young people aged 11–16
• Understands behaviour management and de-escalation
• Has experience in care, youth work or residential settings
• Can build positive, professional boundaries
• Is resilient, patient and calm

Experience supporting young people with SEND or trauma-informed practice is highly beneficial.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
