Protocol Education is working in partnership with a secondary school in Telford that’s on a clear journey of improvement. Expectations are rising across the board, for students, for staff, and for the wider school community. There’s a real drive to strengthen teaching, behaviour, and outcomes, while making sure every young person feels supported to succeed.
This is a mainstream secondary setting, supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4. The focus is firmly on delivering consistently high-quality teaching and learning, alongside building the confidence, resilience, and life skills students need as they move towards adulthood.
Safeguarding is strong. Leadership is visible. Pastoral care plays a huge role in day-to-day school life. The aim is simple, create a safe, respectful environment where students can learn well and aim high.
We’re looking for a calm, committed Behaviour Support Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs within this secondary school.
You’ll be working with students who may struggle with regulation, engagement, or behaviour in lessons. In a busy secondary environment, that means being a steady presence, someone who can de-escalate situations, build trust, and help students get back on track.
This role is about consistency. About relationship-building. About staying calm when things feel challenging. Progress might not always be loud or dramatic, but it’s meaningful. A student staying in class. Completing a task. Choosing to respond differently. Those small wins matter.
Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
Using de-escalation and regulation strategies to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively
Building strong, consistent relationships so students feel safe, respected, and understood
Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals to support individual plans
Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement throughout the school day
This secondary school is focused on:
Delivering a knowledge-rich curriculum that builds strong academic foundations
Raising aspirations and preparing young people for adult life, further education, and employment
Creating a safe, inclusive environment where positive behaviour is expected and supported
Strengthening safeguarding, teaching and learning, and personal development
Providing staff with high-quality professional development as part of its ongoing improvement journey
Pastoral care sits at the heart of the school, with staff working closely with families to improve attendance, wellbeing, and long-term outcomes.
Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional needs
Brings a calm, resilient, and patient approach, even during difficult moments
Understands the importance of consistency, clear boundaries, and empathy
Works well as part of a wider team and communicates effectively with staff and families
Is genuinely passionate about helping young people reach their potential, both in school and beyond
This is a brilliant opportunity if you’re interested in behaviour support, youth work, psychology, education, or SEND, and want to make a meaningful difference in a mainstream secondary setting.
