Making the Move to London

18/02/15

Halli has moved from Canada to teach in London. She shares her experience of what is was like getting ready to move and settling.

So excited to share my teaching experience with Protocol Education in London.

I am a recent graduate out of York University in Toronto. With the job count on the minimal at the moment in Ontario, I wanted to use my love of travel and teaching to fit my interests. When I found Protocol Education, I connected right away with Lindsay Gauthier. I had interviewed and set up applications with the top 10 recruitment agencies in the UK and heard back from all of them! It was then my decision which I wanted to go with. Rumours and word got to me in saying that I wouldn’t get work…were they ever WRONG! Not only have I signed a contract for Monday to Friday work with Protocol Education but I am already booked for another full week after this. The employees met with me when I first arrived in London. They helped me calm down my nerves about moving to a new country. I felt very comfortable walking into their office and having everything ready at my access with any questions ready to answer!

I got sent right away to the bank to set up my account and they even had great feedback from dealing with so many Protocol Education teachers that they only had good things to say. Moving houses and locations also wasn’t a problem because Protocol Education helps with home referral websites that are ready and able to get teachers shared homes. On top of the great connections with the Protocol Education office and staff, I have felt totally taken care of as a newbie to London. Anything I need I know I can ask, I am getting calls and emails non-stop about positions opening, what best fits my interest level and phone calls from Protocol staff with home advice as well! Right from the start I trusted and put all my faith into this company. They are nothing less of professional and I am so happy to be on this journey learning, growing and experiencing with Protocol Education!

I hurried my visa process up, booked my tickets too early before it came, changed it, had my boyfriend waiting in London for me and wanting to enjoy my last couple days at home. Packing was a nightmare. I ended up repacking three times and I still probably could have taken things out. My bag weighed 10 pounds more than the limit and the guy at the check in let me through, thank goodness. Leaving behind my family, jobs and bitter cold winter of Toronto, I knew this was the right move for me! My first night in London, my boyfriend Alessio and I went to Leicester Square! It was magnificent. I felt like I was in a more sophisticated and beautifully historical Times Square. The people, the break dancers, the casinos, restaurants, bars, clubs and stores were all right there! I was so happy to see so much Theatre and cannot wait to explore it all!

We are thrilled to see that Halli is loving life in London and we can't wait to read her next blog.
