'No one likes change', it's a term we hear all the time however often change is necessary and you just have to take the plunge. Julieanne has highlighted in this blog the emotions and steps that come with change to help you stay focused.
Looking for change, Its the big one, you have decided to create a change in your educational career, it could be as big as the school you are working in, the teaching level you are working at down to the specification you are going to teach or a change of tutor or class group. Big or small, change can really mess you up. There is a process that we go through during this crucial time, and if you are not careful you could end up not making any decisions at all and staying in the position you are currently in, or worse, go backwards, ending up depressed and deflated, of what could have been. You will have been thinking for a while, about the changes you want to make, and although I talk of your education career here, this process can be used for all types of changes in your life. There is a pattern that comes with change and I want to share it with you, so you are able to succeed in what ever you choose to do. There are a few provisos, never underestimate your self sabotage button, it will try to get you to change your mind and think you are not capable of achieving your goal sinking into a bottomless pit of fed-upness! Yes I know this is not a word, but I have decided to make it one as it sums up beautifully what I feel when I get into that place, and let me tell you this, it takes a strong person to get you out of it. Secondly just go with the flow, if there is a block in your way there is a reason for this, either to teach you something or to say look for another way round. Using your intuition, you can tell in your gut what you are being taught.
The first step is to accept the place you are at, the fact you want to change and that it will cause different emotions within your body and cause you to question every single thing. Acceptance is the key and let me tell you now, even if you are so sure of the change you want to make, you will feel the emotion of loss. This emotion is normally experienced and felt when someone close has passed away, a strong pull of emptiness, and not seeing the point in various activities you may once have loved. This will also be present when change kicks its heels and lets you know you are leaving something, be ready for it.
The second step of being able to move onto your new life is learning from what you have done. Learning from your victories as well as your mistakes will help you develop into a better person. Remember, you are an amazing being that is able to achieve all that you want, the only thing that stops you, is more often than not, you!
The third step and equally as important is believing and understanding you are wonderful. Believing there is a way forward and believing you are capable is a key step that many of us fail at. So give yourself a mantra to say every day, I am knowledgeable, I am able, I can achieve. Whatever it is, say it to yourself, remember you are good enough to do this, keep doubt out and be positive. The next time you want to make that change, follow these steps and Accept, Learn and Believe in yourself and your future.
