CV Tips for Trainee Teachers

11/01/17

Writing a CV for your first teaching job? Our Senior Branch Manager for Kent, Daniel Goodwin, has these useful tips for anyone keen to secure a great first teaching role.

Your CV could be the most important document you write in your search for your first teaching job. It is your chance to stand out from every other NQT in the market.

Here are my top tips for writing your first teaching CV:

  • Keep your profile short and punchy – remember it should be focussed on your teaching skills & achievements
  • Clearly display your qualifications including your PGCE / Schools Direct / Teach First
  • Your career history should start with the most relevant experience you have – remember you want the reader to see your best roles / placements first!
  • Include some statistics or feedback – consider SLT or mentor observations and include predicted grades or students achieving age expectations
  • Think outside the box and include any extra curricular work or additional duties you have taken on in your placements

Once you have a fantastic CV always get a second opinion. If you want a professional and impartial review, get in touch with myself or your nearest Protocol Education team who will be more than happy to help.
