Bethany's Testimonial: From Australia to Cambridge

20/04/18

• What made you decide to teach in England?

I love to try new things, meet lots of new people, travel and explore. I thought that basing myself in England for a year or two was a great way to do all of the above!

• Why did you choose Protocol Education as your agency?

I chose Protocol because two friends/colleagues that I worked with in Sydney had highly recommended this company. I also did lots of research, and this agency seemed to get the best overall reviews.

• How did you find the process of registering in Australia?

Registering in Australia was very straightforward. Mitch was very helpful and checked in regularly via email and phone. He made sure he gave me plenty of information and was very prompt when answering questions and providing advice.

• What are the biggest differences you have found between teaching in England and teaching in Australia?

There is a lot of extra support and interventions with most classrooms having at least one, if not two or more TAs. There is a lot of collaboration, most year groups do all of their programming together. There is no such thing as a ‘canteen’, but lots of children have ‘school dinners’ from the school kitchen. In terms of getting to work, walking through snow to get to the bus stop is very different to my drive through Sydney traffic!

• Tell us 3 things you enjoy most about living in England?

I love trying lots of different pubs for dinner and a drink.
I love walking and enjoy the stunning scenery.
I love that it is such a central hub to get on a train or a plane and go on an adventure.

• Any travel tips or advice to teachers planning to making the move?

Go for it!
