We’re working with a welcoming and inclusive setting in Stockton-on-Tees who are looking for a dedicated Youth Worker to support young people with additional needs, including SEN and SEMH. This is a meaningful opportunity to help young people build confidence, resilience and trust in a supportive educational environment.

Role overview

As a Youth Worker within the school setting, you’ll support pupils both in and out of the classroom, helping them to regulate emotions, engage with learning and develop positive social skills. You’ll work closely with teachers and support staff to provide consistent, relationship-led support tailored to each young person’s needs.

You’ll play a key role in promoting emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour and personal development.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to young people with SEN and SEMH
  • Build strong, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and personal growth
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting respect, resilience and self-belief
  • Help pupils re-engage with learning following periods of disruption or challenge
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies
  • Support the implementation of personalised plans and strategies

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with young people in youth work, mentoring, education or care settings is preferred
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence supporting young people with behavioural or emotional needs
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and succeed

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
