SEND Teaching Assistant

Some pupils don’t need louder instructions or stricter rules.
They need someone steady. Someone who gets it.

The kind of person who notices when a child’s gone quiet for a reason.
Who understands that behaviour is communication, not defiance.
Who knows that the smallest moment of trust can be the biggest win of the day.

If that sounds like you, keep reading.

The role (and why it matters)

We’re working with a genuinely supportive school looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join them this summer term.

You’ll be supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, and ADHD, helping them feel safe, understood, and ready to learn in their own way.

This isn’t about ticking boxes or sitting quietly at the back of the classroom.
It’s about showing up, building trust, and being the person a child can rely on, every single day.

Because when a child feels safe, everything else starts to follow.

What you’ll be doing day to day

No two days look exactly the same, but here’s a feel for it:

• Being a calm, consistent presence in the classroom
• Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
• Helping children manage transitions without overwhelm
• Breaking learning down into manageable, accessible steps
• Spotting when things are bubbling up, and stepping in early
• Supporting emotional regulation with patience and care
• Celebrating the small wins, because they matter more than you think
• Working closely with teachers and SEND staff to keep things joined up

What makes you a great fit

You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to care, and show up with the right mindset.

You’ll likely be someone who:

• Is naturally patient, calm, and reassuring
• Understands that every child communicates differently
• Has experience supporting children or young people, in any setting
• Builds trust easily, without forcing it
• Stays steady, even when the day isn’t
• Sees progress in the small things, not just the big milestones

What you’ll get with Protocol Education

• Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies, no faff
• FREE access to our CPD Academy, including SEND-focused training
• A dedicated consultant who actually listens to what you want
• Opportunities in schools that value support staff properly
• Ongoing support, not just a “good luck and off you go”

Ready to be that person?

If you’re looking for a role where you’re genuinely needed, not just placed…. this could be it.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
