Job description
SEND Teaching Assistant

A school situated South West London are currently looking for teaching assistants that have experience working with young people with ASD, Downs Syndrome. The pupils that attend this school are aged between 11 - 19.

If you enjoy working in a challenging environment where every day is different from the rest then this school could be an ideal work place for you.

Many of the children at this school are wheelchair bound, therefore prior experience using hoists and assisting with personal care is essential. As many of the students have communication difficulties prior experience with Makaton and PECs would be desirable, The School is situated

Required:
·Experience with ASD / Downs Syndrome
·Manual Lifting Experience
·Personal Care
·Full Drivers licence
·Adult and Child DBS - Or be prepared obtain an Adult DBS through Protocol

Your main duties will include:
·Inspiring and engaging with pupils with physical and mental difficulties.
·Assessing individual learning needs and working on a group basis.
·Preparing materials, equipment and lessons
·Assessing and reporting on individual pupils' progress
·Assisting with the personal care needs of pupils; this may include feeding, changing and manual handling.

We undertake safeguarding checks on all our workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education'. As part of these checks, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in schools. If you do not have a valid subscription to the DBS Update Service, we will require you to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process, at a cost of £44.00. Please note this role will require you to have clearance to work with children and young adults.
