Job description
Primary Teacher Opportunity in Croydon

A primary teacher is required at a Primary school the borough of Croydon. The school is an Outstanding' special school for students with Speech and Language difficulties as well as some needs of Autism. The school is known for its staff retention and praises itself for the opportunities for progression it offers to its members of staff.

The school are looking for teacher who can cover one of their primary ASD classes starting as soon as possible to the end of the academic year with the potential to continue on in September. Experience working with students with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) is desired however this is not essential as the school would consider teachers with a special needs background.

The class sizes are small due to the nature of the impairments and the maximum capacity is 8 children in each class. There is excellent-in class support provided by experienced high-level Teaching Assistants which helps to support the ratio of adults to pupils in the school.
You will be required to plan the lessons, write reports and proactively participate in the general running of the school. You must be vigilant with regards to pupil's wellbeing but most importantly it is essential that you are able to think outside the box' and employ a creative attitude to teaching every child.

Main Duties:
• Teaching a KS1 class of students with ASD
• Knowledge or experience of PDA ( Pathological Demand Avoidance)
• Assessing pupil's levels and ability
• Differentiating work based on students' needs and abilities
• Preparing, planning and marking work
• Good behaviour management of the class room
• Ensuring the schools ethos and policies are being implemented
• Liaising with parents and carers
