Job description
Do you have experience working in SEND schools? Do you have a passion for working with pupils with special educational needs and disabilities? Are you looking for a new challenge?

Protocol Education are currently looking for a strong and committed learning support assistant (LSA) to work in a primary school pupil referral unit (PRU) in Southwark. In this role, you will be required to support the class teacher with the delivery of lesson material and behavioural management of pupils. Class sizes are small, with only 6-8 pupils per class.

As this school is a primary school PRU, you will be working with pupils with ASD and challenging behaviours. Therefore, previous or existing experience working with pupils in this capacity (or from another area of SEND) is essential!

For this role, you will;

• Be able to commit to a full-time role, 5 days a week
• Have previous experience working with children, or young adults, with different educational needs
• Confidence dealing with pupils with different abilities
• A good knowledge of the national curriculum or confident in supporting small groups with particular subject/s (e.g.
Numeracy, literacy booster groups)
• Cable of dealing with challenging behaviour, promoting focus, classroom management and on-going 1:1 support where
necessary
• Good interpersonal and communicational skills
• General knowledge / good understanding of ASD and effective approaches to facilitate complete access to the curriculum

As a learning support specialist, you will: support and facilitate pupil's academic, social and personal development as well as encouraging pupils to develop their social skills. This will include working with pupils within small groups AND/OR on an individual basis as well as supporting, and collaborating with, the class teacher to facilitate pupils complete access to the curriculum.
