Student Support Mentor – SEMH School – Upminster | September Start

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to develop confidence, resilience, and the skills they need to succeed?

We are working with a specialist SEMH school in Upminster that is looking to appoint a dedicated and empathetic Student Support Mentor to join their supportive team from September.

This specialist school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment where strong relationships and emotional wellbeing are at the centre of learning. The school is committed to helping pupils overcome barriers, develop independence, and re-engage with education through personalised support.

As a Student Support Mentor, you will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and other professionals to provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils. You will help students develop self-confidence, manage emotions, build positive relationships, and develop strategies to overcome challenges both academically and personally.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, SEND, or challenging behaviour
  • Be patient, compassionate, and resilient when supporting pupils with complex needs
  • Have strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Be passionate about supporting young people’s emotional wellbeing and personal development
  • Be consistent, approachable, and able to provide positive guidance
  • Work effectively as part of a supportive and collaborative team

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a dedicated SEMH school where you can make a lasting difference in the lives of young people. The school offers a supportive working environment, ongoing training, and opportunities to develop your skills and career within specialist education.

If you are looking for a role where you can inspire, encourage, and support pupils to reach their potential, we would love to hear from you.
