Job description
A Rotherham Primary School is currently looking for a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to join their team.

A Speech and Language Teaching Assistant will assess and treat children and/or adults with specific speech, language and communication problems to enable them to communicate to the best of their ability:
• Difficulty producing or using speech
• Difficulty understanding or using language.

An SLT works directly with the child and provides support to them and their carers: as allied health professionals they work closely with parents, carers and other professionals, including teachers, nurses and occupational therapists.
There are around 13,000 practising SLTs in the UK and around 2.5 million people in the UK have a speech or language difficulty:
• 5% of children enter school with difficulties in speech and language

As a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant:
You'll need to have:
• Excellent communication and listening skills, to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds, motivate children and gain trust. Children may be uncooperative because they're frightened, frustrated or disorientated by their situation
• Patience, as progress may be slow - involving repetitive exercises to aid children who have problems memorising, processing and retaining information
• Creativity and problem-solving skills, to design programmes appropriate for different learning styles and communication issues
• The ability to work in a team, for interacting with other professionals
• Organisational skills and flexibility, to deal with a range of clients in varied settings
• The ability to be at ease in a clinical environment
• Qualities such as empathy, assertiveness, tact, a sense of humour and physical and mental stamina.

Please apply to this job advert or call Emma on 0114 252 1970.
